In this particular instance, the project included in the kit requires kids to participate to build the barn and learn the lessons included in the kit. I don't consider it a bribe. It's a way for kids to take ownership of the project and learn teamwork and responsibility. I fear that sometimes we are so concerned with the "no strings" attached approach in EVERY item we do as a church, we forget that to build a work requires commitment, teamwork, and taking ownership of the ministry. Why not just give the "movie gift" no-strings-attached? I'm afraid that bribes (which this seems to be) may teach them that love is conditional (among other things).
